A former latin american exile writes about life..

Ok so I gave up a comfy boring life to go live in South America. Lots have suggested that I write about my experiences, so here it finally is.

great day...

I chatted with my Aunt in California this morning while I was in the car on the way to the gym. It was knda funny because she used to live in Phoenix so I was able to tell her, yeah I'm at blablabla and she knew... She wants me to go out there for halloween. I just might do that!

But anyway I have a very special song I like these days... it's an Alanis Morisette version of SEAL's "Crazy." In the car I am listening to Xm a lot - they added a channel called u-pop which I guess is also heard on the other side of the pond simultaneously as Worldspace satellite radio.

Worked for a short while this afternoon. People were staring at me because I was wearing jeans and a longsleeved hooded sweatshirt but I didn't care - I spent three hours in a cold server room and those extra clothes made the difference! The guy I was working with was in shorts and a t-shirt and he was cold. But we got lots done!

Gotta go back over my scribbled hours for the week and put it into Excel. See ya.

tonights show

So Kevin and Paul were here tonight again to do the radio show. They had another guy here named Elias - a comic who's also a student at ASU.

Funny show. The humor is not for kids. The callers were funny. One girl told everyone about her big implanted breasts while the John, Kevin and Paul asked her questions and used the conversation as subjects of jokes. Every so often they would cut away to music for a few minutes, commercials etc.

They start at ten on the air but I was taking a nap after the gym workout. I'd well intentionedly set alarm for 9:45 pm and slept through it. They knocked a few times and I finally woke up around 10:30!!

Two pizza places sent over pizza so their names would get mentioned, so there was free food.

So I sat and listened to the show for awhile - they get some weird, weird callers. Note to self - don't answer roommate's phone!!

worthwhile shopping for a gym membership

I spent a couple days checking out prices on gym memberships. Lets see... all have no-contract options. Found prices ranging from $75 a month to around $50 - until a guy on the phone with one of the fitness places misquoted me on the phone. $20 - but that was their 1-week price he quoted me for a months usage.

I even called him back to confirm.

Then I went and joined. I got some funny looks like - no that's our week price. I told them - look, this is what Bruno at xxx quoted me over the phone. Is that your price or is it going to go up now that I'm here?

They honored the price.

Not a bad deal.

comedy show last night

So last night, 29th August, head out with the roommate to a comedy place to see this guy who is supposed to be REALLY funny. Jade Esteban Estrada (google the name to find out more about him, I won't link to his site becuse it the show just wasn't my bag baby.)

Uh, no. Not at all. Nice enough gay guy out of costume, but put him on stage in a toga and drag and a weird-ass purple wig doing the history of the gay world (volume I). But oooooh.... very dramatic, it seemed very long and picture Liza Minelli (but sober) meets Fran Drescher plus gold fake eyelashes --- retaining water. OY. I will skip volume 2 and 3, thanks.

Otherwise got hooked up with an Arizona phone number. Real quick with internet access... bought a cheap cordless phone at wal-mart and then hooked it up to my little Cisco ATA-186. I logged into iconnecthere to verify that there were dollars in the account and saw I still had my Miami number. I called my roommates phone with Caller-ID to show him how it was displaying. Then I logged into the iconnecthere site and changed my number to Phoenix area and let it take effect. Unplugged the little cisco gizmo and plugged it back in... and all good ;) Called the roommates phone again and he saw that my phone nbr had changed from 954-xxx-xxx to 602-xxx-xxxx. Pretty cool shit.

Arizona is the Alabama of the southwest, I am convinced of it. Redneck as hell.

Off to the gym...
