A former latin american exile writes about life..

Ok so I gave up a comfy boring life to go live in South America. Lots have suggested that I write about my experiences, so here it finally is.

Impressions of Uruguay

Why on earth am I writing about Uruguay? For right now I will leave that out. Not important. :-)

But anyway... The country is less TITS-up than it was.

See?

I think 50% off means you only get one.

But seriously, it's a women's clothing store. They just call it TITS because its got shock value in English and is really just a sound in Spanish. They would pronounce it TEETS.

Because none of us can't cut ties with UY, not even the gringos. We hate it when we're there and pay a lot of attention to it when abroad. And, being in US is such a hard experience. I prefer the spirit (UY) over the beast (of materialism) greeding to dominate and slave. There is a list of blogs in English of Uruguay. Yours should be there.

I love you America Eminem says at the end. I do not. I had one of the worst depressing time of my entire life in there. So much hatred and anger. I understand better many of the ExPats behavours now.

I wasn't following your blog entirely, before I departed UY this second time I was reading about your state-of-mind before leaving UY in 2005. It helped me be strong and embrace the chaos. I am glad I made it. Thanks for being so open in your writing. You encouraged me to begin my own blog in 2005 (in Spanish) and 2006 (the first blog in English by a native Uruguayan). And here I am now, Spanish-Uruguayan with a german surname and lovers from all over America, latins, gringos and so forth. Life is a journey ;.)

I'm glad you had the experience of visiting here. I'm sure it was NOT entirely pleasant, much about the USA is not... But at least now you know why the expats in Uruguay can be SO damn strange.

To other readers seeing this... those of you who know me well enough to have my other email addresses, feel free to ask for the background about this comment "conversation."

Damn right life is a journey. I left Uruguay not sure if I would ever see it again, my life was really sort of shattered at that point. But karma is a real thing... the bad things that happen to you eventually turn into good ones. It was actually quite amazing once I got over my irrational fear of stepping off of Buquebus onto Uruguayan soil once again to be back. I was back under much different circumstances with utterly sound reasons for being there and with good things about to begin. Life IS a journey, and sometimes a wheel.
